GRACE SLICK Limited edition 18×25 lithograph of rock ‘n’ roll immortal Janis Joplin, created by the Jefferson Airplane frontwoman Lithograph signed: “Grace Slick” in pencil, sixty-four colors, 18×25. Limited edition (#280 of 300). Hand separated serigraph print of the legendary Janis Joplin, signed at the white lower border by her friend Slick. Grace Slick (b. 1939), born Grace Barnett Wing, was the lead singer for the rock group Jefferson Airplane (1967-1973) and its successor, Jefferson Starship (1974-1988). She also released four well-received solo albums in between touring and recording with the groups. Although Slick seldom performed after 1990, she published her autobiography, Somebody to Love?: A Rock-and-Roll Memoir, in 1998. Her biggest hits include “Somebody to Love” and “White Rabbit” (1967), a celebration of drug-taking emblematic of late 1960s counterculture. Janis Joplin (1943-1970) was a great rock and blues singer, making her material distinctly her own with her wailing, raspy voice and her supercharged emotional delivery. She starred as the front woman for San Francisco psychedelic band Big Brother & the Holding Company, leaving the group in the late 1960s for a career as a solo artist. Joplin was in the process of finishing what would be her final album, Pearl (1971), when she died of a heroin overdose.
